Plant Science in Exploratory Centers

Students in first grade enrichment are beginning their journey towards being botanists, as we use centers to explore some fundamentals of plant life.  After visiting the garden and reading some introductory information about plants, we have used the last two weeks to explore plants in a variety of mediums.  Using centers to move around the classroom, students have had access to computer games that review the fundamentals of plant parts and the plant life cycle (you can check them out under my classroom resources tab on this blog, if you are interested), plant dissection, bookmaking, drawing, leaf rubbing materials and experiments about leaves and roots.  We are using a menu approach in which students move around the room as they finish tasks, and are able to choose the activities that they are most interested in completing on that day.
