Choice and Learning

I have been thinking a lot lately about how choice can drive great learning. The below picture of students was taken during an opportunity that was given to them to have free choice in the enrichment room. Given the opportunity to use the art easels and markers, they created math problems!

In another class last week students used their choice time to create a puppet show about the continents. Students made tickets for the performance, and other students created playdoh food to snack on during the show. I sat back and watched as the whole class got involved in a show about the curriculum topic they were studying in their classroom!

In fourth grade student interest driven choice projects have given me a chance to watch every student shine!

Learning should be about choices.....and I become more convinced each day that these choices lead to the best outcomes for students!
